AI briefing

from the latest 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K events

Belden Inc. is a global supplier of complete connection solutions, organized around Smart Infrastructure Solutions and Automation Solutions, that reported record second-quarter 2026 revenue of $750 million and closed the acquisition of RUCKUS Networks on July 1, 2026.

What they do

Belden makes wired and wireless network infrastructure and connectivity products sold to distributors, end-users, installers, and OEMs. Smart Infrastructure Solutions covers Smart Buildings (copper and fiber cable, connectivity, racks, enclosures, signal extension and matrix switching) and Broadband Solutions for broadband and wireless service providers. Automation Solutions provides digitization and automation infrastructure for IT/OT convergence in warehousing and logistics, energy, transportation, and discrete manufacturing.

Revenue drivers

  • Smart Infrastructure Solutions — Reportable segment providing network infrastructure and broadband solutions, including copper and fiber cable and connectivity, interconnect panels, racks and enclosures, and data center power, cooling and airflow management. Smart Buildings targets data centers, government, healthcare and hospitality, while Broadband serves broadband and wireless service providers.
  • Automation Solutions — Reportable segment selling digitization and automation building blocks for IT/OT convergence and physical AI, covering data acquisition, transmission, orchestration and management. Primary markets are warehousing and logistics, energy, transportation, and discrete manufacturing.
  • RUCKUS Networks — Acquired and closed on July 1, 2026, after the end of the second quarter. Management says it adds Wi-Fi 7 and intelligent cloud management, letting Belden deliver every layer of the network from passive infrastructure to wireless, and third-quarter 2026 guidance includes its contribution.
  • International sales — About 43% of consolidated revenue in the quarter ended June 28, 2026 was to customers outside the U.S., exposing results to translation and pricing effects from the euro, Canadian dollar, Chinese yuan, Mexican peso and other currencies.

Recent performance

Second-quarter 2026 revenue was a record $750 million, up 12% year over year and 8% organically, from $672 million. Net income was $69 million, or 9.1% of revenue, and GAAP EPS was $1.74 versus $1.53 a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA was $146 million, up 28%, at a 19.5% margin, and adjusted EPS was $2.34, up 24%. The quarter included an approximate $0.25 net EPS benefit from expected recovery of IEEPA tariffs, partly offset by new tariffs. Orders were a record $836 million, up 19% with a book-to-bill of 1.11.

Strategy

Belden's stated long-term goals are mid-single-digit annual revenue growth, incremental adjusted EBITDA margins of 25% to 30%, free cash flow margin approaching 10%, annual adjusted EPS growth of 10% to 12%, and net leverage around 1.5x. It is transitioning from component supplier to solutions provider and targeting faster-growing geographies and applications, including AI data centers and physical AI. The company is realigning in 2026 to a unified functional operating model from its two-segment structure. It repurchased 1.7 million shares in 2025 for $194.6 million at an average price of $113.00. RUCKUS Networks, closed July 1, 2026, expands the portfolio to full-stack networking.

Risks

  • Tariff and trade policy volatility — U.S. tariff increases on imports can raise Belden's input costs and reduce demand, and the company booked an expected IEEPA tariff recovery benefit of about $0.25 per share in the second quarter of 2026.
  • Commodity and currency exposure — Copper and compound costs flow through pricing and gross margin, and with roughly 43% of quarterly revenue outside the U.S., a stronger dollar reduces reported revenue and earnings.
  • Cyber security incidents — The 10-K states hacking, phishing and AI-enhanced attacks could disrupt operations, harm brands, and lead to fines, lawsuits and reputational damage, and notes the company holds personally identifiable information.
  • Channel inventory swings — Results depend on how much Belden product distributors and customers hold in inventory, and the company relies on channel partners for that data and can only estimate the effect.

Outlook

For the third quarter of 2026, management guides revenue of $950 million to $970 million, GAAP EPS of $0.69 to $0.84, and adjusted EPS of $2.15 to $2.30, including the RUCKUS contribution. Management says orders entering the quarter are at record levels, the solutions pipeline is growing, and engagement with data center and physical AI customers is increasing. It also says the near-term macroeconomic environment warrants continued discipline.
