from the latest 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K eventsRingCentral is a cloud communications provider selling subscription-based UCaaS, contact center, video and AI products to businesses, with $2.52 billion in 2025 revenue.
What they do
RingCentral sells cloud-based communications and customer engagement software, primarily by subscription under monthly, annual or multi-year contracts. Its portfolio includes RingEX (unified communications), Customer Engagement Bundle, RingCX and RingCentral Contact Center, plus AI-led products such as AI Receptionist (AIR) and AI Conversation Expert (ACE). Subscriptions accounted for over 90% of total revenue in the six months ended June 30, 2026; the remainder is phones and professional services. The vast majority of revenue is generated in the U.S. and Canada, and the company does not manufacture the phones it resells.
Revenue drivers
- Subscriptions (UCaaS/CCaaS) — Subscription revenue was $634 million in Q2 2026, 96% of total revenue, driven by seat-based and usage-based plans across RingEX, RingCX and Contact Center.
- AI-led products — Paid AI products, including AIR and ACE, reached approximately 13% of ARR in Q2 2026, double the prior-year level, priced on usage or seat models.
- Other revenue (phones and services) — Product revenue from pre-configured phones and professional services made up roughly 4% of Q2 2026 revenue; phones are resold via third-party manufacturers as a customer convenience.
Recent performance
Q2 2026 total revenue was $657 million, up 5.9% year-over-year, with subscriptions revenue of $634 million up 5.8%. GAAP operating margin was 7.7% versus 6.0% a year earlier, and non-GAAP operating margin was 23.4%, up about 90 basis points. GAAP EPS was $0.45 versus $0.14, and non-GAAP EPS was $1.22 versus $1.06. Operating cash flow was $206 million (up 23.3%) and free cash flow was $180 million (up 24.8%). The company repurchased about 2.2 million shares for $94 million and raised its quarterly dividend by roughly 67% to $0.125 per share.
Strategy
Management is positioning RingCentral as an 'Agentic Voice AI' leader, citing 13% of ARR from paid AI products and expanding AIR Pro with native AI agents in RingCX. It plans to invest over $250 million in R&D in 2026 while pursuing margin expansion through disciplined hiring, offshore service providers, vendor consolidation, go-to-market optimization and internal AI deployment. A stated priority is reducing stock-based compensation as a percentage of revenue, which fell to about 8.7% in Q2 2026 from 10.2% a year earlier. The company also returns capital via share repurchases, with about $326 million remaining under authorization, and a higher dividend.
Risks
- Negative shareholder equity — At June 30, 2026, total liabilities of $1.79 billion exceeded total assets of $1.38 billion, leaving shareholder equity of negative $610.4 million.
- Leverage and cash position — Long-term debt was $1.07 billion against only $111.5 million in cash and equivalents at June 30, 2026.
- Macroeconomic demand pressure — The 10-Q cites inflation, elevated interest rates, tariffs, supply chain disruptions and geopolitical conflict as factors that could reduce customer demand and cause lower upsell or increased downsell.
- Concentration in U.S. and Canada — The vast majority of total revenues are generated in the U.S. and Canada, exposing results to regional economic and currency conditions.
Outlook
Management raised its full-year 2026 outlook on revenue, GAAP and non-GAAP margins, and free cash flow after Q2 results exceeded the high end of guidance. It also increased the quarterly dividend by approximately 67% to $0.125 per share and reported roughly $326 million remaining on its share repurchase authorization. The 10-Q notes that due to recent profitability, reversal of a valuation allowance in certain jurisdictions is reasonably possible, which would produce an income tax benefit in the period recorded.
