from the latest 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K eventsTeledyne Technologies is a $6.1B-revenue supplier of digital imaging, instrumentation, aerospace/defense electronics and engineered systems for high-reliability industrial and defense markets.
What they do
Teledyne makes enabling technologies that sense, analyze and distribute information: visible, infrared and X-ray sensors, cameras and systems; marine and environmental monitoring instrumentation; harsh-environment interconnects and electronic test equipment; aircraft information management systems; and defense electronics and satellite communication subsystems. It also supplies engineered systems for defense, space, environmental and energy applications. The company operates four reporting segments and became an independent public company on November 29, 1999.
Revenue drivers
- Digital Imaging — Largest segment at 52% of 2025 net sales; visible, infrared, ultraviolet and X-ray sensors, cameras and systems for industrial, scientific, government, space, defense, security and medical applications, plus MEMS and high-reliability semiconductors and unmanned aerial/ground systems.
- Instrumentation — 24% of 2025 net sales; monitoring and control instrumentation for marine and environmental applications, measurement of physical properties, and maritime products for recreational and commercial customers.
- Aerospace and Defense Electronics — 17% of 2025 net sales, up from 14% in 2024; defense electronics, aircraft information management systems and satellite communication subsystems.
- Engineered Systems — 7% of 2025 net sales; engineered systems for defense, space, environmental and energy applications.
Recent performance
Second quarter 2026 net sales were $1,662.5 million, up 9.8% from $1,513.7 million a year earlier, with $12.2 million from recent acquisitions; net income attributable to Teledyne was $251.7 million, or $5.37 diluted EPS, versus $209.9 million and $4.43. Digital Imaging sales rose 12.7% to $868.7 million with operating income up 42.3% to $170.2 million. GAAP operating margin was 20.0% versus 18.4%, and non-GAAP operating margin was 23.4% versus 22.2%. Cash from operations was $315.2 million and free cash flow $284.7 million in the quarter.
Strategy
Teledyne emphasizes growth in its four segments through targeted acquisitions and product development, with balanced capital deployment among capex, acquisitions, stock repurchases and R&D. It completed four acquisitions in 2025 and two in 2024 across Digital Imaging, Instrumentation and Aerospace and Defense Electronics, and one further acquisition after year-end 2025 in Instrumentation. Management plans approximately $150 million of 2026 capital expenditures, mainly for facilities and manufacturing equipment, and continues facility consolidation, product rationalization and headcount reduction to contain costs. The company repaid $450 million of gross debt early in the second quarter of 2026 and says it continues to review acquisitions.
Risks
- Tariffs and trade restrictions — Ongoing tariffs and sanctions, particularly between the U.S. and China, plus China's restrictions on rare earth mineral exports used in Teledyne products, could reduce revenue, raise material costs or delay production.
- Acquisition integration — Teledyne's growth strategy relies on acquisitions, which carry risks of inaccurate valuation, integration difficulties, loss of key personnel, asset impairment and unknown liabilities including environmental ones.
- Government shutdowns — Prior U.S. Government shutdowns have delayed contract awards, export license issuances, shipments and invoice payments for several Teledyne businesses.
- Economic downturn — A U.S. or global recession could cut orders from economically sensitive customers, delay payments and increase price pressure and excess or obsolete inventory.
Outlook
Management raised full year 2026 GAAP diluted EPS guidance to $20.73–$20.99 from $20.08–$20.44, and non-GAAP EPS to $24.45–$24.65 from $23.85–$24.15. It cited record quarterly orders, sales and operating profit, roughly $5.0 billion of funded backlog and a quarter-end consolidated leverage ratio of 1.1x. The company said it continues to review acquisitions given balance sheet strength.
